FUNDRAISING TIPS

If you are taking on a challenge for us or doing your own thing, here are some top tips for boosting your fundraising efforts.

GET MATCHED

When your fundraising total is matched, it is a great incentive for people to give a bit more because every $ they give can have double the impact. Many companies will offer to match what you raise, so it might be worth asking yours.

GET PERSONAL

Tell your WeSeeHope fundraising story! Explain what you’re doing and why you’re doing it to your friends, family and colleagues via email, letters or phone calls. And then shout loudly about it by posting on social media, setting up a blog and putting it in your email signature!

GET ONLINE

Create an online fundraising page, and make the most of it! Set yourself an ambitious target and upload photos and videos to make your donors feel part of your fundraising journey.

GET THANKFUL

Take the time to thank your donors individually, and tell them the impact their support will have. It makes a huge difference and will boost the support you get on the day.

… KEEP GOING!

Even once your challenge or event is over, keep sharing your updates and encouraging people to support you! Maybe they’ll be inspired to do something as well…

LOOKING FOR INSPIRATION?

There are lots of interesting and easy ways to fundraise, but it can sometimes be difficult to find something that suits you. So here’s our list of favorite fundraisers.

WITH YOUR OFFICE

The office is a great place to set up simple but effective fundraisers to bring colleagues together and spark some fun competition.

SPORTING SWEEPSTAKE
Get competitive and ask your colleagues to donate $5 to guess the Super Bowl, Ryder Cup or US Open outcome – whoever guesses correctly gets 50% of the winnings and you donate the rest.

MEALTIME CLUBS
Set up a weekly breakfast or lunch club where members take it in turns to cook, and everyone else in the club donates to eat their delicious meal.

PHONE A FRIEND
Lock a group of your colleagues in a meeting room for 20 minutes and challenge them to raise as much money as possible using only their phone contacts.

BUSINESS PROMOTION
Ask your local coffee shop to donate a percentage of the proceeds from every sale made to your colleagues in return for lots of free promotion!

TIME CHALLENGE
Set up a 24-hour treadmill, cycle or step challenge, booking people in for half an hour slots. Put buckets in your reception, set up a JustGiving page and work together to make a big impact.

WITH YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY

Organizing a get-together with a difference is the perfect way to get your family and friends on board with your fundraising.

COME DINE WITH ME
Ask your friends round for dinner, provide the entertainment and then ask them to donate what they think the value of the meal was!

TRIVIA & GAMES NIGHT
Organize a board games championship or perhaps a quiz in your local pub – charge your friends to take part by enticing them with 50% of the winnings.

WINE & CHEESE NIGHT
Tell everyone to bring along their favourite wine (or gin!) and provide them with some delicious cheese. If everyone donates $10, you can raise a bit of money whilst enjoying your friends’ company!

FILM CLUB
Bring a group of friends and family together by hosting a film club or even a 24 hour marathon of your favourite TV series. Provide the popcorn and ask your guests to make a small donation to come along!

BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH
Host a delicious brunch for your nearest and dearest, asking them to contribute to cover the costs with a little extra being donated.

WITH LITTLE TIME

We understand how time-consuming fundraising can be – so here are some ideas that can make a huge impact with minimal effort.

% OF WHAT YOU CHARGE
If you run your own business, a great way to fundraise is to donate a portion of what you charge your customers. Or perhaps you’re an amateur photographer, make-up artist or chef who could start charging?

RENT WHAT YOU OWN
Using what you’ve already got is one of the simplest fundraisers… rent out your holiday home, car parking space, give your air miles or even lend your dog for the day!

CELEBRATION DONATION
Is your birthday coming up, or perhaps your wedding anniversary? Set up a simple fundraiser on Facebook and you’ll be surprised at how generous people can be!

HIDDEN TREASURES
Do you have clothes that you never wear? Or furniture that you want to get rid of? Why not sell them on Ebay and donate what you get.

AMAZON SMILE
Raise money whilst you shop using Amazon! If you register with Amazon Smile, they will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price of eligible purchases to us. Click here to register – it couldn’t be easier!

WITH A TWIST

Being outside the box with your fundraising can really inspire people to donate.

RECIPE BOOK
Get creative and compile your favorite recipes into a book, then ask your nearest and dearest to donate in order to have a copy for themselves. A great Christmas fundraiser!

GOOD GAMING
Join the millions of people doing good while they game by organising a gaming event through JustGiving. It is super simple and a great way to get your online community involved in your fundraising.

PROMISE AUCTION
Ask your networks to bid for you to do something… maybe you could offer to cook them a fancy meal, clean their house or babysit for a weekend?

TRAVEL CHALLENGE
Be an adventurer and challenge yourself to travel as far away from home as possible without spending any of your own money.

TREASURE HUNT
Create your own online treasure hunt using apps such as Actionbound and ask people to donate to take part!
